Barry Semegran
Woodworker
Barry Semegran's woodworking covers a wide range from lathe-turned objects to fine furniture such as entertainment centers, coffee tables, night stands, artist easels, picture frames, beds, dressers, and redwood picnic tables.
Barry enjoys the inherent beauty latent in wood which is then worked to raise this beauty to the surface, the only part of the object we ever see. Barry has had very little formal training in the fine arts, although many years of study in philosophy included some emphasis in aesthetics -- the study of beauty. Hands-on woodworking and years of philosophic study can be balancing forces in life, approaching the platonic ideal of an active, healthy body spending time in soul enriching philosophic contemplation.

Describes His Work
Barry learned production woodworking by manufacturing high quality cypress beehives for a mail order business he and his wife, Jody, ran for over 15 years in rural Georgia. Jody and Barry have made Anchor Bay home since 1988. © 2005 Barry Semegran
